BUSINESS ENGINEERING IN THE ECONOMY OF UNCERTAINTY

Introduction. Contemporary business development is taking place under conditions of increasing instability, nonlinearity, and uncertainty of economic processes. The transformation of the managerial context from VUCA and BANI environments to the PLUTO world, characterized by polarization, high dynamics of change, asymmetry of managerial decisions, tension, and omniconnectedness of systems, actualizes the need for new approaches to the design and transformation of business systems. Under such conditions, business engineering acquires the significance of an integrated management concept focused on aligning strategy, business processes, enterprise architecture, resources, and digital technologies.
Purpose. The purpose of the article is to investigate the evolution of business engineering, reveal its system-architectural nature, and substantiate its managerial potential under the conditions of the economy of uncertainty.
Materials and methods. The methodological basis of the study includes the provisions of systemic, process, architectural, and strategic approaches to enterprise management, the concepts of business process reengineering, Lean, Kaizen, TQM, Balanced Scorecard, Business Performance Management, as well as approaches to enterprise architecture modeling. The study applies methods of theoretical generalization (to investigate the evolution of business engineering), systematization (to structure business engineering concepts and technologies), structural and logical analysis (to determine interrelations between the elements of a business system), comparison (to analyze the transformation of business environment models), and conceptual modeling (to substantiate the architectural model of business engineering).
Results. It has been substantiated that business engineering has evolved from business process reengineering into an integrated system-architectural concept of enterprise management. It has been determined that its key characteristics include systemicity, architectural orientation, process orientation, and a focus on the practical implementation of managerial changes. The study proves that business engineering enables business system modeling, optimization of interrelations between system elements, and enhancement of enterprise adaptability, flexibility, and resilience under conditions of external transformations.
Prospects. Prospects for further research are associated with the development of digital business engineering, the integration of artificial intelligence technologies and Process Mining into business system management processes, as well as the development of adaptive enterprise architecture models under conditions of high turbulence in the economic environment. Particular relevance is attached to the formation of a business engineering methodology for enterprise management under conditions of crisis transformations, wartime risks, and the digital transformation of the economy.
