DIGITAL ECOSYSTEMS AND INFORMATION SYSTEMS INTEGRATION IN THE FORMATION OF SMART ECONOMY: ECONOMIC AND SUSTAINABILITY DIMENSIONS

Abstract

The current stage of economic digital transformation is characterized by a transition from the use of isolated information systems to the development of integrated digital ecosystems in which enterprises, digital platforms, information resources, technological services, and users interact within a unified digital environment. Under these conditions, information systems integration becomes an important factor in the formation of a smart economy, as it enables continuous data exchange, business process automation, scalability of digital infrastructure, and data-driven decision-making.

The purpose of the article is to investigate the role of digital ecosystems and information systems integration in the formation of a smart economy, to identify the economic effects of integration technologies, and to substantiate their impact on the sustainable development of enterprises.

The study applies a systems approach, comparative and structural analysis, generalization and systematization, economic evaluation, and analysis of statistical data provided by the OECD, Eurostat, UNCTAD, and the International Energy Agency.

The relationship between information systems integration, the development of digital ecosystems, and the formation of a smart economy is identified. The main integration technologies are systematized, including application programming interfaces (APIs), cloud services, microservice and event-driven architectures, enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, containerization technologies, and integrated data environments. It is substantiated that their implementation can reduce operating and transaction costs and improve the productivity, scalability, and adaptability of business processes. The study demonstrates that the economic effects of digital integration can be complemented by sustainability effects resulting from the optimization of material, energy, and information resources. Using the example of a standardized multi-service environment, the possibility of quantitatively assessing the economic efficiency of integration solutions is demonstrated. A system of digital ecosystem KPIs combining integration, data, operational, economic, ecosystem, smart, sustainability, and resilience indicators is proposed. It is argued that the development of a smart economy requires a transition from maximizing the level of digitalization to improving the economic, resource, and environmental efficiency of digitalization.

Further research should focus on developing a methodology for calculating a Digital Ecosystem Efficiency Index, assessing the economic efficiency of the API economy, investigating platform dependency and vendor lock-in, and evaluating the impact of artificial intelligence, digital twins, composable enterprise architecture, and ESG monitoring systems on the economic and environmental performance of digital ecosystems.
