Abstract

Introduction. Contemporary structural changes in the global economy are increasingly driven by technological innovation, digitalization of production, and institutional transformation. These processes significantly affect the development of sectoral economic systems and require new methodological approaches to the analysis of economic transformation. In this context, the integration of different theoretical perspectives becomes particularly important for understanding the dynamics of sectoral development and structural change.

Purpose. The purpose of the article is to substantiate the methodological foundations for studying the economic transformation of sectoral systems through the integration of systemic, institutional, and evolutionary approaches within modern economic theory, as well as to conceptualize sectoral transformation processes in the context of technological change, institutional dynamics, and innovation development.

Materials and Methods. The methodological framework of the study is based on the integration of systemic, institutional, and evolutionary approaches. The research applies methods of systemic analysis, comparative institutional analysis, evolutionary economic modelling, and conceptual synthesis of technological transformation theories. The study also uses analytical tools developed within the theory of sectoral innovation systems, technological paradigms, and the multi-level perspective of socio-technical transitions.

Results. The research demonstrates that sectoral economic systems should be analyzed as complex open systems characterized by dynamic interactions between technological, institutional, and organizational components. The systemic approach enables the identification of structural elements of economic systems and their interconnections, while the institutional perspective explains the role of formal and informal rules in shaping economic behavior and coordination mechanisms. At the same time, evolutionary economics provides an analytical framework for understanding technological change, innovation diffusion, and competitive selection processes within industries. The integration of these theoretical approaches makes it possible to develop a comprehensive methodological framework for analyzing structural transformations of sectoral systems and the dynamics of technological and institutional change.

Prospects. The proposed methodological framework creates a theoretical basis for further research on structural transformations of industries in the context of technological development and digitalization. Future studies may focus on the empirical application of the integrated approach to the analysis of innovation-driven sectoral development, as well as on improving analytical tools for industrial policy, innovation policy, and strategies for technological modernization of economic sectors.
